a little about me as a musician
I’m a Musician and I’m studying Music theory with the bass guitar and the aid of a good teacher. I do it mainly for fun and personal pleasure but I’d love to live out of my Art. Since we are living the Glocalization era and since I truly believe in Creative Commons, I share my Music here with you all.
I started making electronic Music back in 97 when I met Emo and the Mi.S.Fu.. Before that I used to play drums in a band with friends back in 93, we were playing blues and funk cover songs. Covers are not really my cup of tea. I prefer making my original Music.
The Mi.S.Fu. experience has been one of my best music things. We did quite a few gigs together, the most important have been the HackIt 99 and the SmartBrainArt happenings back in 1999 at the old arts and social centre self managed house “Deposito Bulk” in Milan. But I plan to play Live soon enough, as CGA.
After a long period of, to say the least, no ongoing creativity, about 2008 I started to make music again. I used to use Linux as my one and only operating system but I now switched to OS X since I own a MacBook Pro.
I’m mostly a tracker person since I like the tracker way of making music: vertical notation, scrolling patterns and hex. Renoise is The Tracker I use but I want to learn a few more software too: NI Komplete and Reaktor to make my sounds and engines, Ableton Live and IanniX to name a few. I also play the Didjeridoo since 1997.
I own some MIDI equipment and I’m studying MIDI by myself with the aid of a really good book. I must say that I like the idea of MIDI and how it is implemented and how it works.
The most important aspect is that the sounds, the patterns and “scores” will always be in the software on my computer. The hardware will be only to interact and make things up. In one word: Controllerism.
I also play often with my dear friends at our N8 lab, where we improvise and have sane fun after dinner, parties and/or exhibitions et cetera. Beside playing for our own pleasure, as N8 we play at events and where-ever we get invited.
I really believe in the power of Creative Commons and I have even almost started my own radio show in mid 2005, where I wanted to air only Creative Commons music. At that time I’ve also created a forum (called Boh’s Silent Revolution) to publish anything arty and Creative Commons. Think of it as a SoundCloud for “all” copyleft art forms.
All of my music it’s Free (like sharing in Freedom) but I want to make a living out of if and I would appreciate you donating to me; it’s licensed under a Creative Commons license.
I used to publish on Jamendo but I now switched to SoundCloud.
On Jamendo they offer good services but people seem not to care in supporting Artists. I’ll keep releasing my Music under a Creative Commons license, but at least I can put a fee to download the tunes in high quality.
SoundCloud is a great, modern and ubiquitous platform to share Music, but it doesn’t allow direct selling. Fortunately it offers integration to sell Music through a series of Application, I chose Ganxy since it offers direct buying of tracks or sets (albums) directly from the SoundCloud page using several paying method such as PayPal, Amazon and iTunes.
What people miss of Creative Commons it’s that if you don’t feed us Artists, we cannot really make music for that long without money.
You can think of me as a Soulful Ego in a Strange World.
Enjoy it
